That cigarette is fake. He thinks it looks cool, but tell him it doesn't. He'll listen. But that, with those goggles, baggy short pants, and coat make him think, "steam-punk". He likes that-- steam-punk. Became a scouter after reading too many comic books. Quote James Dean: "You know something? You read too many comic books."

Experiment with style, and new character design. Color scheme is a Moonrise Kingdom reference, 'cause I ain't wanting any of them "Candy-Cane Lane" colors so have some nice analogous, and complementaries. Included here-- bottom right corner. That BG took me less than 7 minutes.
